A cowboy-entrepreneur, Goodnight founded the first Texas Panhandle ranch, blazed cattle trails, and invented the chuckwagon, a portable field kitchen used to feed ranchers and rustlers on long cattle trail journeys. His story embodies the toughness and innovation of the pioneers. The iconic trailblazer also happens to be an ancestor of entrepreneur Bill Foley who considers this to be a legacy project, envisioning a destination that reflects the determination and ingenuity of the American West.

Taken down to its original 1880’s brick walls, the narrow, two-story building was expertly redesigned to make essential structural improvements, maximize space, and foster an open, inviting environment. Massive steel beams were integrated throughout to support the aging structure, while contributing to a rugged industrial aesthetic.

The first floor houses a well-appointed, open kitchen and ample seating, while the second floor features a sleek bar, additional dining areas, and a prep room discreetly hidden behind doors. The state-of-the art glass elevator not only provides convenient, efficient access, but also offers guests a unique perspective of the restaurant’s stunning interior. An elegant, custom-built wine cooler is seamlessly tucked under the staircase, one of many innovative, unobtrusive storage solutions.

High-end, rustic finishes, such as bespoke rifle chandeliers suspended over deep green leather booths, subtly beguile their exquisite craftsmanship while enhancing the Wild West theme. Custom white oak slats with a rich, luminous varnish generously adorn the walls and ceilings, providing a warm and welcoming ambiance. Enlargements of historic, black and white photography are strategically placed to engage and entertain visitors.

The lighting system was expertly designed and positioned to brighten the linear space, avoid overcrowding, and illuminate the restaurant’s features. Tiered starburst light fixtures and skylight windows line the full length of the vaulted ceiling to create an expansive, airy atmosphere that enhances the dining experience. Gleaming glass globes and delicate open-cut wood fixtures contrast heavy industrial elements, bringing movement and levity to the space.

Modern technology is discretely integrated for a seamless and aesthetically pleasing look, such as built-in speakers that are only visible as flush gray circles provide quality ambient sound without disrupting the visual harmony of the space. Attention to detail is evident throughout the restaurant, including intricate porcelain tiles and robust stone counters, complementing the overall design theme with durability and elegance.

The Goodnight’s Steakhouse project showcases a dedication to excellence in construction, where every element has been carefully selected and installed to create an inviting and luxurious atmosphere. By blending Old Western elements with high-end finishes, the space created is both nostalgic and contemporary, offering an unparalleled dining experience in Healdsburg.
