New Location for Burgess Cellars Tasting Room
Lawrence Wine Estates had inspiring plans for Burgess Cellars, but just three weeks after acquiring the 19th century Howell Mountain winery, the Glass Fire of 2020 destroyed multiple essential structures. Owner Gaylon Lawrence, Jr. turned to Craig Nordby to secure an ideal new location — the former Luna Vineyards in Oak Knoll District — and accomplish the wine production and visitor experience they envisioned for Burgess.
Disguised by an impeccably crafted walnut bookcase, a hidden door leads to the Founders Room, an indulgently exquisite space reserved for the most celebrated Burgess Cellar guests. Departing from the light, Bohemian feel of the main tasting room, this intimate lounge features cozy seating areas for small groups to linger and floor-to-ceiling casework designed to elegantly showcase the winery’s extensive vintage history. This tasting room conveniently offers a well-appointed bar and direct access to a full catering kitchen.
